A Sweet History

Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream has long been a beloved staple in Mystic, with a history that stretches back to the 1800s. The shop’s story reflects its deep connection to the community and its unwavering commitment to quality. Though the name and ownership have changed over the years, one thing has remained constant: the dedication to providing handcrafted ice cream made from the finest ingredients. In 1992, Cheryl Robdau took over ownership and rebranded the shop, giving it its current name, and cementing its reputation for serving some of the best ice cream in the area. The legacy of small-batch, homemade ice cream lives on today, with many recipes dating back over 30 years, some even passed down through generations of the Robdau family.

The tradition of crafting ice cream from scratch has been central to the shop’s identity. Over the years, the flavors have evolved, but the focus on quality and craftsmanship has remained a hallmark of the Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream experience. Each batch is made with care, ensuring that the shop continues to honor its rich history while innovating with new flavors and ideas.

As a local favorite, the shop has played a key role in the community, drawing in visitors from near and far. Despite the growth of the town and the changing dynamics of Mystic, Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream remains a true symbol of the town’s charm and its commitment to preserving the traditions that make it unique.

Savor the Flavor and the View

While it’s true that Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream draws crowds, especially in the summer, the line moves rather quickly and the anticipation only makes the treat that much sweeter! Once you grab your ice cream, head out to the side porch, where you can unwind with a perfect view of the Mystic River. This scenic spot offers a wonderful opportunity to watch the Drawbridge raise and lower every hour on the 40-minute mark.

From here you can also watch boats, kayaks, and paddle boards pass by, making it the perfect place to relax and take in the sights. The patio offers a great outdoor experience, and the combination of fantastic ice cream and beautiful views makes it one of the best spots in Mystic to spend some time.

If you can’t find a spot on the patio or inside, a more secluded location exists a short walk away. Walking out the exit, take a right and follow the building around to the back passing the spice exchange. While there is tpyically minimal to no seating over here, the views are just as great and larger groups can spread out while enjoying your treat.

Menu Highlights

Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream offers much more than just traditional ice cream. Their menu features over 30 flavors, including classic favorites and unique creations, all made with the finest ingredients.

Options include rich ice cream, fruity sorbets, creamy frozen yogurt, and dairy-free alternatives. Some of the standout flavors include Mystic Mud, Kahlua Mocha Fudge, and locally inspired creations like the Maple Walnut with hand-roasted nuts. Our menu favorites include the Cookie Sandwich, the Seaport Salty Swirl, and the Jamacian Me Nutty, however ice cream is all based on preference and dietary restrictions.

The shop also offers a wide variety of other treats and drinks, like refreshing Italian sodas and indulgent chai lattes. Some unique chai options include the “Dirty Hippie” (a chai latte with espresso), the “Black Beard” (chai, espresso, and chocolate), and the “Buttered Horchata.” There’s also an affogato, a perfect treat for coffee lovers, as well as a variety of specialty teas and lattes.

For those who prefer a non-dairy option, there are numerous sorbets available, including flavors like raspberry, lemon, and mango, and our favorite, blood orange, making it a great stop for anyone avoiding dairy.

Our biggest recommendation is to try a unique menu item as this seems to be there MDIC flourishes most.

This Ixe Cream Parlour is SO CUTE. Firestly the space itself is decorated and bright. Very cool for hot summer breaks. The menu has everything you can think of in a cake/ice cream shop. The ice cream specialist were happy to serve and help us make decisions as all the flavors sounded delicious. Speaking of which, they have gluten free and vegan options that are so inclusive for all ages. I ended up getting a very reasonably priced single scoop for about 4.00 with Jamaican me Nutty which was so so so perfectly balanced between chocolate ice cream, chips, almonds, and other nuts. Would be back very soon.

Review for Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream I recently visited Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream and tried their Vermont Maple Nut flavor in a waffle cone--and I'm so glad I did! This little gem of an ice cream shop, located right by the historic drawbridge in Mystic, has a welcoming, old-fashioned charm that makes you feel right at home. The Vermont Maple Nut ice cream was absolutely amazing. The flavor had the perfect balance of rich maple sweetness and creamy, nutty goodness. Each bite was smooth and perfectly crafted, with crunchy nut pieces that complemented the velvety ice cream. The homemade waffle cone added just the right amount of crunch and had that fresh, slightly buttery taste that paired wonderfully with the ice cream. The location only added to the experience, with beautiful views of the river. Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream is a must-visit if you're in town.

As we are discovering Mystic, CT this mid-October day, an ice cream shop was perfect after our oyster dinner. After seeing multiple signs for Cider Mill Apples throughout the town, we saw the reference in the window again and walked in to inquire about it. It was warm and naturally flavorful and sans the synthetic taste of the supermarket variety. Ooooh, yea! A huge heaped cone of three different flavors for my hubs, he enjoyed every lick. Stop by, located right next to the drawbridge. Inside is quaint, cozy with chill staff.
